Below are some testimonials about the previous 6-month term:

Saying that this halaqa is life changing is by no means an exaggeration. An amazing chance to have a weekly interactive “lecture”, were you get to learn of different ways of bettering yourself. The speakers are all experienced, knowledgeable people, and still have the brotherly/sisterly appeal. There is also an amazing chance to forge friendships which you wouldn’t get usually with fellow Muslim brothers.

This was the first halaqa that I have committed to and, alhamdullilah, it has been a very rewarding experience. We were fortunate enough to have different speakers alternating every week to present their topic/theme and provide their own touch to the halaqa. I really liked how the speakers were not only objective to everyone’s opinions and questions, but also provided you with more knowledge that compliments (or changes :-) ) your opinion (you’ll realize that a verse/Hadith holds so much more than what you already know!). Another great aspect of the halaqa was the tips the speakers provided to develop good habits that we sometimes find difficult to develop on our own.

The halaqa was also a great social environment and I am very grateful to have met all the great people there. Indeed, coming together for the sake of Allah is a very rewarding experience.

I definitely recommend this halaqa if you get the opportunity to join. It’s amazing what a little weekly commitment can do for you.

My experience with the halaqa was a very enjoyable one. The halaqa added to me knowledge about my religion, life experience, and levels of Iman. Also, through the halaqa, I met new people and friends. I would recommend this halaqa to my friends.

During the summer of 2008 I was invited to join the MAC youth Halaqa. We met almost weekly since then. Through the Halaqa I got the chance to meet my brothers and sisters in Islam, and to increase my bond with them for the sake of Allah. The Halaqa had a family appeal to it, where our mentors were like our older brothers and sisters trying to point us in the right direction.

Some of us tend to be self motivated, others may need a push, but either way the Halaqa served as a constant reminder for us on how to put our Deen in priority, and practice what we preach when it comes to our religion.

I hope that we start another group similar to the Halaqa again, it was very sad it had to end! Also I think more and more Halaqas should be launched in our community, with an improvised structure and mechanism to them.

    assalama alleykum,
I have attended couple halaqas and mansha’allah they were great sources of information and rememberance of allah SWT.
I sometimes wonder though, is there central organization that coordinates these halaqas and their programs so that not halaqas of the same type or programing are held at same time.
    thanks,Jazaka

Jazaka Allaho Khair for your comment.

The Muslim Association of Canada runs around 15 different halaqas in the city. These are coordinated via the MAC Youth Committee and the Education Committee. This same model is implemented in different cities as well, such as Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, Windsor, etc.
