Sr. Rasha Sakr gave a brief “Introduction to Aqeedah”.

NOTE from Sr. Rasha:

Asalam Alikom my dear brothers and sisters:

It was a pleasure that I met all of you today.

I just want to make a clarification about something I said at the halaqa. I got confused about the order in which the Prophet PBUH mentioned Islam and Iman in the famous hadeeth of Jebreel. In the famous narration used by Imam Al-Nawawi, Islam is mentioned before Iman and Ihsan, which indicates that simply practicing the “rituals” of Islam is sufficient for someone to be called a “Muslim”. This is the example of the bedouins that was mentioned in Surat Al-Hujurat. Iman is then the level at which belief comes into the heart, giving true meaning and life to those “rituals”. It should also be clear that such differentiation between the meanings of Islam and Iman is only valid when the two terms are mentioned together, otherwise (i.e when only either of them is used), both of them have the same meaning which includes both belief and practice.

I should also mention that there is another narration of the hadeeth by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim in which Iman is mentioned first.

May Allah SWT reward the brother who reminded me after the halaqa and may Allah SWT forgive our weaknesses and shortcomings.

Rasha Sakr
